Description

The colonial legacy of the tea and coffee estates are reflected in this design for this leading global beverages firm in Bengaluru. The interior scheme, rich in the use of natural materials and warm light is intended to evoke a sense of regality in the employees. Workstations are set amidst lush greenery. Nooks and pods in strategic locations help with focused activities for smaller groups and larger collaboration areas are set in the center of each floor plate.

Public zones are highlighted through materiality as well as the design of the ceiling - wooden rafters washed with warm yellow light. Comfortable lounge seating for employees is intended to lend a feeling of easy comfort. The design of this space is a dramatic departure from the current trend of ‘funky’ workplaces where anything goes and a unifying identity is lost. Here, identity is everything and the design ensures this impact.

Workstations are organized along the periphery of the floor plate such that each workstation received optimum daylight. Workstations are clustered in neighbourhoods of up to 8 employees to promote an intimate environment of camaraderie.

The central feature on each office floor is the work cafe. The collaborative zone is actually a coffee shop - an imitation of the company’s leading brand. Employees can walk into the centre, pour themselves tea, coffee or snacks, sit at the tall stools in groups or enjoy the comfort of the lounge seating. Biophilia represents itself wholeheartedly and the immediate experience of working on this floor is of walking through a garden. The environment is envisaged to be rich is the smells of coffee and flowers, bright from the natural daylight and earthy in aesthetic with the use of tactile and natural materials to treat prominent surfaces.
