Description
The lake front retreat is a self-contained adobe offering elemental experiences enhancing human senses. The project sets itself apart in the resort centric bordering Vembanad in kumarukum, by being designed outwards in. Primarily being conceived as a tropical yet groomed landscaped space leading to the lake; restrained quantum of architectural interventions was then placed within. The property boasts 27 luxurious villa, two restaurants, a health club, an extensive spa experience and a tranquil landscape grooming the river. The architectural design was initiated around a main built structure, now converted into the reception and restaurant. Various unwinding paths brushing through the landscape lead to the scattered villas. Each around 100 sqm, housing a private moot pond, open shower, portico and bed facing the lake, and semi open landscaped area.
The architecture responds to the Keralite culture, climate and geography; through the use of native forms and locally available materials and skill sets. The organisation and relation of spaces pays homage to the coast’s rural built forms.
Despite traditional architecture being the essence various intricacies lean towards modernity as a reductive approach in minute Architectural details and to provide a sense of internal luxury.
